Update | European Union (EU) Regulation 2019/320 will come into effect soon

The European Union (EU) Regulation 2019/320 established Article 3(3)(g) of the Radio Equipment Directive (RED, 2014/53/EU), which requires handheld mobile phone manufacturers to prove that their products comply with Galileo GNSS and Advanced Mobile Location (AML) and Wi-Fi positioning requirements, with its emergency call function such as 112, this requirement will take effect on March 17, 2022.

The corresponding test standards are still under development.

The general test content of the regulations is as follows:

(1) Positioning level accuracy

(2) Galileo Open Service Navigation Message Authentication (Galileo OSNMA)

(3) Exposure of additional Galileo observations

(4) Emergency communication

(5) WiFi positioning
