Author:中认联科 time:2021-01-12 Ctr:2319

EN 71-2, as a toy burning safety standard, aims to reduce the risk of children being burned by toys. It is an important part of the EU toy standard EN 71 series and is of great significance for the control of burning risks in the safety of children's toys.

On December 9, 2020, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) released a new version of EN 71-2:2020. According to the plan, the standard will become the national standard of EU member states before June 2021, and the conflicting national standards will be withdrawn by December 2021 at the latest. In addition, the standard is expected to be included in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) in 2021 to replace the current toy harmonized standard EN 71-2:2011+A1:2014.

Comparing the new standard with the old version, the main updates are:

1. Toy costumes need to be tested before and after washing;

2. The sample processing method is changed to allow testing of smaller samples, and the clarification of seams and fillers are also included in the scope of testing

3. The test method adopts a clearer expression;

4. An informative appendix of specific test categories suitable for different types of toys has been added

ZRLK recommendations

Before being officially replaced by EN 71-2:2020, the current effective standard is still EN 71-2:2011+A1:2014. During the transition period when the new version takes effect, it is recommended that companies consider whether they meet the new version of the standard in the production process of their products, so as to avoid the product being recalled or removed from the shelves because the old version of the standard is officially invalidated.
